What is Packs for Friends?
This original pilot group was formed in Omaha, Nebraska in response to Ahmed, a young adult, who was detained and deported from Iowa, with nothing. All he wanted was a backpack, and he was denied that.
Packs for Friends - Omaha
A community-driven effort delivering backpacks with essentials to those leaving detention, tailored to individual needs based out of Omaha, NE. The majority of individuals deported from Iowa, go through the Omaha field office and this is where they can get personal belongings or a backpack. Our goal is to have Packs for Friends in all the cities where ICE holds court that other orgs aren't serving, to ensure each person deported has something when they arrive back to their country of origin.
