Monarch Messengers
"Monarch Messengers" is a direct support initiative serving individuals detained by ICE and their families through advocacy, family outreach, emotional support, connection to critical resources, and accompaniment throughout the detention process. Our volunteers help ensure individuals are not navigating detention in isolation, providing compassionate support from initial detention through case navigation and, if deportation occurs, maintaining connection and support through the process and beyond borders whenever possible.
Packs for Friends - Omaha
Packs for Friends is a rapid-response mutual aid initiative created after an individual was not allowed his backpack; the one thing he wanted was no longer allowed locally. We learned that personal items could only be delivered through Omaha, over 3.5 hours away. In response, the community of Omaha quickly organized to provide backpacks tailored to each individual’s size and needs, including two outfits, a pair of shoes, and a phone charger, since many leave detention with dead phones after months in jail. These packs help ensure that when someone is deported, often to a country where they may have little or no support, they are not sent away with nothing.
