Every day, people detained in Iowa jails face isolation, uncertainty, and barriers to accessing support. Many have no attorney, no advocate, and no one checking in on their well-being. That's where Monarch Messengers come in. Monarch Messengers provide direct support to individuals detained by ICE, with a special focus on those who do not already have a lawyer, agency, or volunteer assisting them. Through communication, connection, and compassionate outreach, volunteers help ensure that people are not navigating detention alone. Throughout the month of June, we'll be offering opportunities to learn more about the program and complete volunteer onboarding. If you've been looking for a meaningful way to support immigrant communities, we would love to connect with you.

Please note that this is currently a volunteer-led effort. While we hope to secure funding in the future, we are not yet able to provide reimbursements for expenses. There are some communication-related costs associated with the role, so if a family member, friend, faith community, or supporter is able to contribute a $20 donation to help you get started, it can make a big difference. Together, we can build a network of care, dignity, and support for those who too often go unseen. Interested in volunteering or learning more? Reach out and join us in becoming a voice of hope and connection for those navigating detention alone.
